How to Photograph Your Car for a Custom Brick Model

By BrickTuned ·

Side profile of a custom brick-built lifted pickup, 3D render

Your custom BrickTuned kit is designed from your photos, so better photos mean a model that looks more like your car on the first preview. The good news: you don't need a pro camera. A phone and five minutes is plenty.

The one photo that matters most: the side

One clear side photo is enough to start. It shows the car's proportions: wheelbase, roofline, ride height and overhangs. For the best result:

  • Stand far enough back that the whole car fits with a little space around it.
  • Hold the phone at roughly door-handle height and point it straight at the middle of the car.
  • Shoot from the side, not at an angle, so the car isn't stretched.

Front and rear: lights, grilles and wings

Front and rear shots help us get the details people recognise first: headlights, grille, bumpers, taillights and any wing or spoiler. A straight-on photo of each is ideal. A three-quarter angle works too.

Lighting tips

  • Overcast days are best. Soft light shows the true paint colour without harsh reflections.
  • Avoid shooting into the sun, which turns the car into a silhouette.
  • Skip heavy filters so we see the real colour.

What to put in the notes

Photos show the shape. The notes tell us what makes the car yours. Mention anything we might miss:

  • Wrap or paint colour, especially if it shifts in different light
  • Wheel style and colour
  • Aero: splitters, skirts, wings
  • Ride height: lifted, lowered, stock
  • Livery, stripes or decals
  • Roof racks, light bars, bed caps and other accessories

Common questions

How many photos should I send?

One clear side photo is enough to start. Front and rear photos help, and up to 6 photos fit in the order form.

Can I use photos from social media or a car meet?

Yes, as long as they show your car clearly and you have the right to use them. Screenshots are fine if the car is sharp and not too small in the frame.

My car has changed since the photos were taken. What now?

Tell us in the notes: new wheels, a wrap, a lift, a new bumper. We'll design the car as it is now, and you'll check it on the 3D preview.

Will you share my photos?

No. We use them only to design and support your order and won't use them in our marketing without asking you first. See our terms for how photos are stored.

Don't have great photos?

Send what you have. Older photos, a picture from a car meet or a screenshot from social media can all work. If we need more, we'll ask. And because you approve a 3D preview before any parts are ordered, with two rounds of revisions included, there's room to fix anything we didn't get right the first time.
